Decided to take a break, and it was a welcome break,I mean from blogging, that gave me oppurtunities to learn more about the bulls and bears of the bull ring called stock market.Life is always full of lessons to be learnt,I do believe the readers too agree, that we always keep learning something new, every day unfolds its surprises.
After more than 4months of leading sedantry life, decided to give it a break, and go on a visit, been telling my children for quite some times lets make a visit to family deity in the village, since it was long overdue.Ofcourse my children are no exceptions, just like other children at that age, where they would like to assert. And out of the blue,my children suggested lets take a break, make a visit to village,it caught me by surprise, since it was I ,who used to nag them, about visiting temples, and here they were, asking me.Told them fine, but plan properly the iternary,so you are able to get the best out of the money spent, but then it all fell in deaf ears.
We decided to leave saturday morning early, and return back by sunday evening, when it came to transport,my younger sibling who also is a six footer, just like his brother, wasnt ready to travel in cramped quarters. He said lets travel in comfort,he wanted the comfort of airconditioned atmoshphere and also plenty of leg room and no squeezing the shoulders. We were only three of us ,yet they decided amongst themselves to go for travera, that was real latin to me.Me who was always happy traveling by Public transport or at the most by Good old Ambassador or at the most go for Indica, this was new. They decided, and we started off on a journey to our family village and pay our respects to ruling deity there. Our Village is called varagur, located in the midst of cauvery delta region. We started of early at 5.30 am,taking the highway leading out of chennai NH45 towards trichy. After having breakfast, enroute at Acharapakkam, one of my favourites, when ever I travel down south,is a restaurant ,rather roadside restaurant, olden days,I mean thirty years back the highway used to pass through the sleepy village ,and most of the buses taking the route, used to stop here for breakfast, because of the quality of breakfast.Even today they maintain standards, only thing with changes thats come, nolonger highway cuts across the sleepy village, and is on bye pass, and with the changing times, the hotel too has moved on to highway,as the neighbourhood developed into much better organised neighbour hood. Its called Ganesh Vilas.Morning you get Pongal/iddlies/vadai/dosai and poori for breakfast.with suitable side dishes that are tasty and natural.
We reached by traveling on the highway samyapuram temple thats about 20Kms before Trichy city.Since this tamil month adi(ashada) is important for amman temples, decided to visit the temple and pay our respects before proceeding further. After visiting the temple and having dharshan,we continued our journey to Srirangam, where Lord Vishnu reclining on his favourite( serpent) adhisesha gives dharshan, after going around the temple and paying our respects,we continued into trichy .After a break of about 30minutes for lunch,we decided to proceed towards Grand annaicut(dam) across river cauvery, that acts more like regulator,to regulate flow of water into the tributaries/channels.There are roads along either banks of river cauvery that takes one to this place. But best would be take the one at the northern bank of river, because its maintainance and upkeep are much better. And we reached comfortably travelling the 30Kms,and what a sight the greeted us.All the water flowing in the river cauvery let off from Mettur dam reaches this place and is distributed to fields along either banks through net work of channels.Though the first crop (Paddy) called kuruvai(short staple variety) usualy sowed in june first week, this is a short term crop, was a failure, because of poor storage levels of water in Mettur dam, because of late arrival of monsoon in catchment areas of karnataka, water only got released when karnatak dams were filled up,surplusing water s that couldnt be stored by karnataka, caused delay in release of waters for cultivation.Luckily the day we were at Grand annaicut, only that morning they held an official function to release water to farmers for cultivation of paddy( sambha)long duration crop, and we could witness the beautiful sight of stored water gushing out into chnnels. It was a beautiful sight. The life giver ,the water flowing, going to irrigate so much of parched lands,(have enclosed photos of majesty of river cauvery as it flows through the delta region)this was first hand experience for my children, learning first hand about how the staple food is cultivated in the delta region.
